Organization and Areas of Activities of the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva is located at the center stage of multilateral relations where many international organizations with diverse areas of work and often different charters, goals and structures are active.  In performing the tasks and responsibilities entrusted to it, the Permanent Mission, bearing the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran as its beacon, faces the challenge of defending national interests in the context of the multilateral/international political and economic relations. Multidisciplinary nature of the work, entailing close working relationship, interactions and negotiations within the frameworks of international organizations, multilateral treaties, conventions and agreements adds to the extent and depth of the challenges the Mission faces. Issues of global/international dimension and topics that are high on the regional and political agendas shall, indispensably, have reverberations on national policies and performances, thus should be tackled systematically and elaborately. Intensive preparatory works and delicate handling of multilateral talks on the part of the Mission normally accompanies by critical mass of coordinative work with the Capital and systematic exchanges of feedbacks between and amongst pertinent actors in multilateral scene. The range of issues and problems discussed on areas such as Disarmament, Human Rights, Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Relief, Development, Telecommunications, Environment, Multilateral Trade & Export Promotion, Labor issues, Migration, Meteorology, etc. are amongst most critical discussions targeting key aspects of international political relations. Along this, a clear division of responsibilities within the Mission provides for a highly focused conduct of various themes and issues while, in many cases, coordination across divisions and topical issues assures integrity and coherence of intent and directions of the efforts rendered.
