Iranian movie director wins the "Cine Europe 2006" prize
Nov 3, IRNA - Iranian movie director Bahman Qobadi won "Cine Europe 2006" prize in Spain. The Cine Europe Festival, founded in 1986, grants its prize to a movie maker, annually. In the festival, the movies are screened for one month in the city of "Santiago de compostella", Spain. There is no competition section in the festival. Iran announces three-day holiday on Eid al-Fitr
Oct 23, IRNA -The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced Monday a three-day holiday in Iran on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr marking the end of the holy month of Ramazan. The Supreme Leader's Office said Monday, tomorrow is the Eid-al Fitr. "The crescent of the next lunar month has been sighted and felicitations to all Muslims on Eid al-Fitr. May God accepts your prayers during the holy month of Ramazan," said the office in a statement. In another statement released by Deputy Government Spokesman, it was said that the cabinet of ministers has decided to announce Wednesday and Thursday as official holiday in Iran. Since Friday is the weekend holiday in Iran, Iranians can enjoy a four-day holiday after one month of fasting and praying during the holy month of Ramazan. »more»

Solana: We are still in the pre-negotiating phase with Iran
Oct 17, IRNA -European Union Foreign Policy chief Javier Solana denied Tuesday that the 25-member bloc has cut off talks with Iran on the nuclear issue and said the door was open for negotiations. Speaking at a press conference after a meeting of EU foreign ministers this afternoon, Solana said he spoke to Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani on the phone yesterday. "We have said we maintain the door open for negotiations, But for this some decision have to be taken from the Iranian side," he said. Solana says EU wants solid ties with Iran
European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana held a "constructive and cordial meeting" with a group of Iranian MPs in Brussels Tuesday evening, his spokesman Cristina Gallach told IRNA. Solana told the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of Majlis (Iranian parliament), Mahmoud Mohammadi, and three other accompanying MPs that "we want a solid and multifaceted relations with Iran." However, he added, "we cannot move forward because of the nuclear issue." Solana said it has not been possible to create a suitable atmosphere for negotiation as the Islamic Republic has not accepted suspension of enrichment activity.
